The Port of New York and New Jersey set a new monthly record in February 2017 in container throughput. January had already seen cargo volumes rise.

The port handled 290,565 containers (507,066 TEUs), an increase of 1.2 % over the previous record of 287,197 containers (500,659 TEU[ds_preview]s) set in February 2016. This follows a record month in January 2017 and marks the best January/February cargo volume numbers ever recorded in the port. In the first two months of the year, the Port of New York and New Jersey handled 586,997 containers (1,024,734 TEUs), an increase of 4.6 % over the previous record set in January/February 2016.

The port’s ExpressRail system also set a record for February, handling 42,805 containers by rail, surpassing the previous monthly record of 41,837 containers set last February by 2.3 %.
