Fincantieri has won a new customer. The Italian shipbuilder was awarded an order from Norwegian Cruise Line for the construction[ds_preview] of four new generation cruise ships with an option for additional two, for the NCL brand. The value of each ship is approximately 800 mill. €, with one delivery per year from 2022 to 2025, stretching to 2027 in case of confirmation of the option.

The ships are intended to form the backbone of the future NCL fleet, being about 140,000 gt, almost 300m long, and accommodating 3,300 guests. The order is based on a prototype project developed by Fincantieri. Focus was set on energy efficiency.

In early february, Fincantieri recieved an order from Carnival Corporation to build two more vessels for its brands Holland America Line and Princess Cruises. Those vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2021 and 2022.

Additionaly, the shipbuilding corporation’s subsidiary Vard will build two gas-powered 130m ferries for Norwegian operator Torghatten. Vard has also signed a Memorandum of Understading with an undisclosed cruise operator concering the construction of an 145m expedition cruise vessel scheduled for delivery in 2019.
