US breakbulk and project carrier Intermari[ds_preview]ne has completed the maiden voyage of its first »Ecolift 500« newbuilding, the »Industrial Skipper«. The 12,500 dwt vessel is part of a wider fleet modernization.

»Industrial Skipper« is chartered from German shipowner Jüngerhans. The 147 meter vessel has two cranes with a combined lifting capacity of 500 tons and was constructed at Shandong Huanghai shipyard in Rongcheng, China. For her maiden voyage, »Industrial Skipper« has transported modules to Corpus Christi, Texas.

Several breakbulk carrier, as well from Germany, have opted for newbuilding of this type with partly different features, i.a. BBC/Briese, Auerbach and Krey. »Designed to be more ecologically friendly, the Ecolift 500 fleet boasts reduced consumption and lowered greenhouse emissions all while complying with the latest waste water requirements and ECA zone fuel requirements. The specifications of the Ecolift 500‘s class include: heavylift gear, long hatch, flexibility, green passport, and state-of-the-art hold and hull technologies that meet all modern standards«, Intermarine announced.

The fleet renewal program of the US-based carrier will continue to deliver until 2019. There are two additional models in the »Fleet of the Future«:
Ecolift 900‘s: 13,300 DWT, 900 mt lifting capacity, delivering 2017-18
Ecolift 300‘s : 8,500 DWT, 300 mt lifting capacity, delivering 2018
