In the fierce offshore shipping competitio[ds_preview]n, Norwegian shipowner Eidesvik has signed two agreements with major industry players.

The »Acergy Viking« – in the fleet list of Eidesvik listed as subsea vessel – will commence on a six months contract plus options for Siemens Wind Power in German sector as a service operation vessel. According to the statement, the contract commencement will be in June this year.

In another deal, Eidesvik agreed with Chevron North Sea Ltd. on a charter extension for the »Viking Princess«. The extension is direct continuation on existing contract for one-year firm plus options. Both vessels are then committed throughout 2017.

»We look forward to work together with our client on yet another project. We are also very pleased with the extended thrust from Chevron«, it was announced. The official fleet list on the homepage of the shipowner currently contains ten vessels for the »supply« market, five in the »subsea« and nine in the »seismic« segment.

The offshore supply market for shipowners is very challenging since the oil price dropped in the last year to very low vessels and offshore explorations as well as wind farms lost some of their structural profitability. Especially, the Norwegian shipowners market was hit hart.

Nonetheless, there is hope that the industry will get back to better times as soon as the oil price increases again. The German »WindGuard« association for example expects a growing demand for supply ships for service and maintenance businesses.
