From the fleet value perspective, LNG tankers make by far the most valuable segment of LNG-fuelled ships (271 ships[ds_preview] worth 45.4 bn $), container vessels are next with 30 units worth 3.1 bn $, followed by 44 tankers valued at 1.1 bn $.

When it comes to engine types, dual-fuel engines still account for the largest number of installed and ordered units with 207 systems installed and 94 on order. DF-engines are followed by MEGI high pressure systems with 33 installed and 47 on order.

While gas fueled ships in service account for only 0.5% of the total fleet, their value is at 4.9%. In the fleet on order, gas fueled ships account for 4.6% in number of vessels and 14% in value. Looking at the total fleet (live and on order), LNG vessels take a 6.5% share of the overall value at only 0.8% in total number.

A look at vessel delivery schedules reveals that so-called »eco« ships have taken the lead in 2015. While still more non-eco than eco ships were ordered in 2018, this picture appears to have changed significantly from 2019 onwards.
