The global engineering group Cavotec has won several orders for its shore[ds_preview] power systems for customers in the Far East and Europe. The total value of these orders amounts to 12 mill. €.

Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) is a cold ironing system which allows ships to turn off their engines when in port, and plug into shore-side electricity supply, thus helping to bring cleaner air to ports and surrounding communities. Cavotec’s AMP systems can be fitted on ships, or, space permitting, on quaysides.

The largest of the new orders is to supply more than 50 ship-based AMP units for a major container shipping line. Another order includes AMP cable management systems for four separate customers in China and South Korea fitted to container vessels. Further 16 AMP cable management units will be installed on bulk carriers in China. The group will also supply, install and commission ship-based AMP and cable management systems for two newly built 9,000 TEU container vessels of a UK customer. For this project, Cavotec will manufacture cable management systems that will be placed in two specially adapted 40 ft »High Cube« AMP containers, together with medium voltage systems and control equipment. The contract includes training at Cavotec’s facility in Shanghai, and commissioning in the US where the ships fitted with the units will call. Cavotec will also supply a further ten container-housed AMP systems for a customer in South Korea fitted to newly built container vessels.

With these orders, there are now more than 500 Cavotec AMP units that are installed, or currently being installed on ships, while ports across North America and Europe also use the technology.
